Introduction to Workplace
Note that
many of your students may be applying for work if they aren’t already
employed. More and more often, there
are assessment tests that learners must take, especially in the manufacturing
sector.
The
Industrial Workplace Entry Level Reading, Writing and Math Assessment developed
by the Janet Regehr for the Manitoba Division of the Canadian Manufacturers
& Exporters is one such test. Test
of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) is another http://www.towes.com/ready.asp.
The National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) Website, Educational Resources – Workplace lists a number of useful links to workplace related material and information: http://www.nald.ca/netlinks/resource/res16.htm. The section of Education Resources dedicated to School-To-Work may also be useful: http://www.nald.ca/netlinks/resource/res11.htm, as is the ESL section: http://www.nald.ca/netlinks/resource/res6.htm.
You might
also want to look at Human Resource Development Canada’s site, http://www15.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/english/Application_e.asp
for information on assessments, self-assessments, resources for teachers and
professional development for teachers.
