Purpose: to practise identifying organizational conventions in text. Materials: a selected text prepared as below
Preparation: select a text, make photocopies, cut into logical chunks or strips, make one complete set of strips per pair of students. Time: 30 – 45 minutes |

Teacher’s Notes |
Procedure 1. Select a reading text, either from a course book or an authentic source. Ones with linear stories or logical structures work best. Prepare the copies as noted above. 2. Conduct any pre-reading warm-up for the
text (key vocabulary, topic introduction and discussion, contextual clues for
determining logical order– first, next,
then, therefore, etc.) 3. Put students in pairs and distribute one
set of text strips to each pair. 4. Allow students enough time to work
together arranging the text into the correct order. 5. Circulate, monitor, and assist. 6. Follow up by assigning pairs post-reading tasks. |
